Toyota and Maruti Suzuki have a strategic and technology sharing partnership in India. The Japanese automaker is selling the rebadged versions of Maruti’s popular models including the Baleno (as the Toyota Glanza), Fronx (as the Taisor), Brezza (as the Urban Cruiser) and Ertiga (as the Rumion). This collaboration might see two more addition by the end of this fiscal year. Toyota is likely to launch SUVs based on the upcoming Maruti Escudo hybrid and e Vitara based electric models.
Here’s a brief on these two upcoming Toyota SUVs.
Toyota Escudo-Based SUV
Similar to Maruti Suzuki, Toyota might introduce one more midsize SUV to challenge the dominance of the Hyundai Creta. The overall design and styling of this new Toyota SUV are expected to be similar to the Hyryder. However, it might be slightly longer and have more boot space than its sibling.
As per media reports, the Maruti Escudo will be offered with Level-2 ADAS suite, Dolby Atmos integration, 4WD and a powered tailgate. All these features might also be carried forward to the new Toyota midsize SUV. In terms of powertrain, Toyota’s Escudo-based SUV will feature a 103bhp, 1.5L K15C petrol mild-hybrid and a 115bhp, 1.5L Atkinson cycle petrol hybrid powertrains.
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV
Showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will be based on the Maruti e Vitara, which is expected to go on sale in late 2025. The EV will be offered with two battery options – a 49kWh and a 61kWh – delivering power worth 144bhp and 174bhp (FWD) and 184bhp (AWD), respectively. Its official range is yet to be announced; however, the new Toyota electric SUV is expected to deliver an electric range of over 500km on a single charge.
While the cabin layout and features will be identical to the Maruti e Vitara, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV will carry a few signature Toyota design elements. The Japanese automaker has confirmed that the EV’s rear seat will have a sliding and reclining ratio of 40:20:40 and a 40:20:40 split-folding configuration.
