Hyundai Motor India has announced plans to introduce 26 new models by 2030 including ICE (internal combustion engine), hybrid and electric vehicles. One of them will be the Hyundai Bayon compact crossover, which will be introduced as a direct rival to the Maruti Fronx in mid-2026. In global markets, the Bayon takes on the Volkswagen T-Cross and Ford EcoSport. Hyundai’s Fronx rival SUV is estimated to be priced between Rs 10 lakh – Rs 12 lakh.
All-New Petrol Engine
According to media reports, the Hyundai Bayon will be the brand’s first model to feature an all-new locally-developed 1.2L TGDi petrol engine. This new engine is said to deliver better torque and drivability than Venue’s 1.0L petrol engine, which produces a maximum power of 120bhp and 172Nm of torque. It will also be more compact and frugal than the Creta’s 1.5L turbo petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 160bhp and 253Nm of torque.

Hybrid-Ready Tech
The new 1.2L turbo petrol engine, debuting with the Bayon in India, will also be used for Hyundai’s future hybrid and compact models priced between Rs 15 lakh – Rs 20 lakh. It will meet the upcoming CAFÉ 3 and BS7 emission and efficiency standards. The Hyundai Bayon will come in a choice of a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox option. Rumour suggest that depending on variant and application, it could be get a DCT or eCVT transmission in India.

The new Hyundai Bayon will come with a host of features including a 10.25-inch infotainment system supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, four-spoke steering wheel, wireless charging, ambient lighting, fast-charging USB Type-C ports, OTA updates, ADAS (advanced driver assistance system), LED headlamps with split pattern, LED strip on the bonnet, black plastic cladding, air dam with honeycomb pattern with silver trim, 17-inch diamond-cut alloys and boomerang-shaped taillamps connected via a LED strip.
