The iconic Tata Sierra nameplate is set to make a grand comeback during this Diwali season. However, its official launch date is yet to be announced. The SUV has already made its debut in its final production version and was recently showcased at a dealer event. Lifestyle SUV with 4 seater option
The Sierra will be positioned as a lifestyle 5-door SUV, packed with premium interior and features. At the Auto Expo, the carmaker unveiled its 4-seater concept with a lounge-like layout. It has two, wider rear seats with ottoman function along with foldable tray tables, arm rests, rear seat entertainment screens and phone chargers. The Sierra 4-seater model might also make to the production.
Triple screen setup
Leaked images confirm that the Tata Sierra will be the brand’s first model to feature a triple screen setup running across the dashboard. One display will work as the infotainment system, while the other two will function as the driver’s instrument cluster and a front passenger’s entertainment unit.
Level-2 ADAS & More
Similar to the new-age Tata cars, the Sierra SUV will come with the Level-2 ADAS technology. This advanced safety suite will offer features such as adaptive cruise control, lane centering, lane keep assist, etc. its safety kit will also include features such as multiple airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill descent and hold control, electronic stability program, electric parking brake with auto hold, and more.
Premium features
The Tata Sierra’s cabin is expected to be well-equipped with features such as ventilated front seats, wireless phone charger, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, a 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof, connected car tech, OTA updates, HUD (head-up display), etc. It might borrow some features from the Harrier EV such as a 540-degree view, digital IRVM with built-in dashcam recording, digital key with ultra-wide band, Dolby Atmos and more.

Electric before ICE
The Tata Sierra is expected to debut with an electric powertrain, followed by its ICE version. However, there is no official word on the same. The Sierra EV might share the 65kWh and 75kWh battery packs with the Harrier EV.
NA petrol engine; turbo later
Initially, the ICE-powered Tata Sierra will be offered with the new 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine. A 1.5L turbo petrol engine will be introduced later, as Tata aims to ensure it’s refinement levels before launch.
QWD system
The Sierra EV might be equipped with AWD (all-wheel drive) or QWD (quad-wheel drive) system, as we have seen on the Harrier EV. If offered, this setup will be reserved for the higher 75kWh battery pack variants.
Two different platforms
The ICE-powered Tata Sierra will be designed on the new ATLAS platform, which also underpins the Curvv SUV. This architecture supports multiple body styles and technologies including the 4X4 capability. The Sierra EV, on the other hand, will be built on Tata’s Gen 2 Acti.ev platform, supporting both RWD (rear-wheel drive) and AWD (all-wheel drive).
Expected pricing
The Sierra petrol with the naturally aspirated engine is likely to be priced around Rs 14 or 15 lakh for the base variant. The diesel version might be offered at a starting price of Rs 20 – 22 lakh. Prices of the Sierra EV are expected to fall in the range of Rs 18 lakh – Rs 25 lakh (all, ex-showroom).
Competition
The Tata Sierra will directly rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun. Its electric version will face challenge from the Hyundai Creta Electric and the upcoming Maruti e Vitara.
