TVS Motor Company is riding high on the success of its iQube electric scooter. The homegrown two-wheeler manufacturer has been leading the EV segment for the last four consecutive month, surpassing rivals like Bajaj Auto, Ola Electric, Ather Energy and Hero Vida. Aiming to maintain its lead, TVS is gearing up to launch a new electric two-wheeler during the October – December period. In the same quarter, the company will also introduce a new electric three-wheeler.
What is it? – TVS Orbiter or Indus
While TVS hasn’t officially revealed any details of the upcoming model, it’s likely to be an entry-level electric scooter. Reports suggest the model might be named TVS Orbiter or TVS Indus. The company has also filed trademark applications for the names ‘EV-one’ and ‘O’. So, it remains to be seen which name will be used for this upcoming affordable e-scooter.
Positioning & Features:
The new TVS electric scooter will sit below the iQube in the company’s product lineup. Similar to the iQube, the new affordable electric scooter is likely to feature a hub-mounted motor sourced from Bosch. However, it’s expected to come with a less powerful electric motor with a battery capacity of less than 2.2kWh. In terms of features, the TVS Orbiter might offer a basic LCD console with limited connectivity features.
Expected Pricing:
The TVS iQube is currently available in six variants, with the base 2.2kWh variant priced at Rs 1.08 lakh and the top-end ST 5.1kWh variant at Rs 1.60 lakh (all, ex-showroom). The upcoming TVS Orbiter is expected to be priced around or slightly lower than the Rs 1 lakh mark. When launched, the new TVS electric scooter will compete with the lower variants of the Ola S1X and Bajaj Chetak.
More details about the upcoming new TVS electric scooter are expected to be revealed in the coming months. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
