A calm evening in Chandler, Arizona, quickly turned into every parent’s worst fear. Three-year-old Trigg Kiser had been playing near the family’s backyard pool while his father, Brady, kept an eye on him and his baby brother and also watched the Knicks-Celtics playoff game. Investigators say Trigg was alone for over nine minutes. He was pulled from the water, but despite desperate rescue efforts, he died days later, leaving his family and neighbours shattered.
Betting records, surveillance footage, and police findings raise concerns
Phone records obtained by police show that at 5:14 p.m. – about 75 minutes before the incident—Brady placed a $25 sports bet through DraftKings on Celtics star Jayson Tatum to score over 40 points against the Knicks. Tatum went on to score 42 points, and Brady received a $102.50 payout.Officers said Brady first claimed Trigg was left alone for about five minutes, but footage revealed it was longer than ten minutes. “I didn’t have a clock, obviously… it wasn’t minutes, it was moments,” Brady told police in his initial statement. Detectives wrote that his version of events did not match what was seen on video and concluded he “was not watching Trigg at all during the critical times.”The report also revealed that the family owned a pool safety net called a Katchakid, which was usually in place. It had been removed recently so the pool could be used and was not replaced before the drowning. Chandler Police stated: “The combination of these factors led to drowning, and a remedy to any of the contributing circumstances could have prevented the outcome.”According to the report, there was no evidence that Brady saw Trigg in the pool and failed to act; instead, police said he immediately tried to help when he noticed his son. First responders transported Trigg to Chandler Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on May 18.
