Nissan, which currently has only a single offering in its Indian product portfolio (Magnite), plans to expand its lineup with two new SUVs. One of them will be a C-segment SUV based on the third-generation Renault Duster, while the other will be a three-row SUV targeting family car buyers.
The Japanese automaker has finally started testing its new midsize SUV in India, and here’re the first spy images.

Rivals & Expected Launch
This new Nissan SUV will face challenge from the models like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate and the upcoming Tata Sierra and Maruti’s new midsize SUV. Its market launch is expected around mid-2026.
What Do the Spy Images Reveal?
The spotted test mule of the new Nissan SUV was heavily camouflaged concealing its design details. However, one can notice its upright stance, a pronounced grille with the signature badge in the centre, bumper with C-shaped elements and a high-set bonnet. The SUV also features prominent plastic wheel arches, 5-spoke alloy wheels, a shark fin antenna, a spoiler, rectangular taillights and a flat tailgate.
Sharing Features & Powertrains With Duster?
As of now, interior details are not available. However, it’s highly expected to share its cabin layout and features with the new Renault Duster. The new Nissan SUV is expected to be offered with multiple powertrain options including petrol, CNG and hybrid. The lower variants might come with a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine, while the higher trims could get the 1.0L or 1.3L turbo petrol engine.
As per media reports, the Renault Duster hybrid will arrive within 12 months of its ICE version, which is slated to hit roads in early 2026. Nissan’s C-segment SUV with a hybrid powertrain will follow later. The carmaker is also considering CNG variant of the C-segment SUV. However, Nissan might opt for a third-party or retrofitted CNG solutions, as it did with the Kwid and Kiger.
