Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch a brand-new SUV on September 3, 2025, and it could be something big. While the carmaker hasn’t officially revealed the name, specs and details of the product, it’s likely to be called Maruti Escudo. Several media reports suggest that it will be a new midsize hybrid SUV from Maruti, based on the Grand Vitara.
However, the latest spy images show the model with a distinct ‘E’ badge next to the nameplate hinting that it could be the electric version of the Grand Vitara or that Maruti might launch the e Vitara under the Escudo name. The official confirmation is still awaited.

Meanwhile, let’s take a look at the key details we know so far about the Maurti e Vitara and Maruti’s Grand Vitara-based new midsize SUV.
Maruti e Vitara
Maruti e Vitara was first showcased in its close-to-production avatar at this year’s Bharat Mobility Show. The carmaker has confirmed that its first electric SUV will be based on a skateboard platform, co-developed with Toyota. The e Vitara will come with two battery pack options – 49kWh and 61kWh – sourced from BYD.
These will be paired with the front-axle mounted motors, delivering power worth 143bhp and 173bhp, respectively. Torque output for both variants is rated at 192.5Nm. Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the e Vitara with the larger battery pack will offer an MIDC-certified range of over 500km on a full charge.
New Maruti Midsize SUV
The new Maruti midsize SUV (might be named Maruti Escudo) will be sold exclusively through the Arena dealership channel to challenge Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. While its official specifications are yet to be revealed, it’s expected to share the 103bhp, 1.5L petrol, 116bhp hybrid and 88bhp CNG powertrains with the Grand Vitara. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be on offer.
In Maruti Suzuki’s product portfolio, the Escudo will sit above the Brezza and below the Grand Vitara. In terms of pricing, it’s expected to overlap price range of both the Brezza and Grand Vitara.
