Aamir Khan and his family have publicly responded to recent allegations made by his brother Faissal Khan, calling his claims ‘hurtful and misleading.’ The brothers’ strained relationship has come under the spotlight once again after Faissal accused Aamir and other family members of mistreatment and confinement. In an official statement, the family defended their actions as decisions made out of care and concern for Faissal’s well-being, urging the media to respect their privacy amid ongoing personal disputes.“We are distressed by Faissal’s hurtful and misleading portrayal of his mother Zeenat Tahir Husain, his sister Nikhat Hegde, and his brother Aamir. As this is not the first time he has misrepresented these events, we feel it necessary to clarify our intentions, and reaffirm our solidarity as a family.
Decisions made with care and medical advice
It is important to share that every choice regarding Faissal has been taken collectively as a family, in consultation with multiple medical professionals, and has been based on love, compassion, and a desire to support his emotional and psychological wellbeing. For this reason, we have refrained from publicly discussing the details of a painful and difficult period for our family. We request the media for empathy, and to refrain from turning a private matter into salacious, inflammatory and hurtful gossip.Family Members: Reena Datta, Junaid Khan, Ira Khan, Farhat Datta, Rajiv Datta, Kiran Rao, Santosh Hegde, Seher Hegde, Mansoor Khan, Nuzhat Khan, Imran Khan, Tina Fonseca, Zayn Marie Khan, Pablo Khan.”
Faissal alleges confinement and mistreatment
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Faissal alleged that his family labelled him as having schizophrenia, calling him “a mad person” who could be a danger to society. He further claimed that Aamir Khan had once kept him confined in his Mumbai home for over a year.Faissal recalled feeling trapped during that period, as his family allegedly insisted he had schizophrenia and considered him a danger to society. He described the situation as a “chakravyuh” (maze) in which he felt stuck, claiming the entire family had turned against him and viewed him as mentally unstable.Faissal Khan said he often prayed for help and wished his father—who, according to him, stayed away from family politics—would come to his aid. However, he claimed he had no way to contact him. Faissal alleged that Aamir confined him to the house for a year, took away his phone, and placed bodyguards outside his room, while also giving him medication. He said he wasn’t allowed to go out, and after a year of such confinement, Aamir finally agreed to let him shift to another house when he insisted.
Legal battles and mental health evaluations
Aamir Khan and his brother Faissal have had a turbulent relationship over the years. Their conflict escalated when Faissal was asked to give up his signatory rights in the family business, leading him to approach the court. He also underwent a 20-day mental health evaluation at JJ Hospital, where doctors declared him mentally sound and fit. The brothers once shared the screen in the 2000 film Mela, which starred Twinkle Khanna and was directed by Dharmesh Darshan.
