Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch a new midsize SUV on 3rd September 2025. While its official name is yet to be revealed, the model is widely referred to as the ‘Maruti Escudo’. However, as per a fresh media report, this new Maruti SUV will debut with an all-new nameplate. Furthermore, it will be the first Maruti Suzuki in India to feature an underbody CNG tank replacing the conventional boot-mounted setup. This new arrangement will ensure no compromise on the boot space.

Underbody CNG Tech
The underbody CNG tank placement is said to “the biggest CNG technology update for Maruti cars”, addressing customer complaints about limited cargo space in CNG variants. These CNG kits will be factory-fitted on the production line, ensuring thorough integration and optimal calibration of the engine, gearbox, brakes, and suspension. Maruti Suzuki will introduce this underbody CNG tech in several of its upcoming models.

Level-2 ADAS & More!
The new Maruti SUV Escudo will also become the brand’s first vehicle to offer Level-2 ADAS suite and Dolby Atmos audio technology. However, these features are expected to be offered exclusively on the higher trims. The reports suggest that the Maruti Escudo will feature a powered tailgate and AWD (all-wheel drive) system.
Hybrid & Petrol Options
The engine specifications of the new Maruti SUV are yet to be revealed. However, it’s expected to share the 103bhp, 1.5L K15C petrol mild hybrid and 115bhp, 1.5L, 3-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol hybrid powertrains from the Grand Vitara. Buyers can expect a choice between manual and automatic gearboxes.
Pricing & Positioning
The new Maruti SUV will sit between the Brezza and Grand Vitara in the company’s product lineup. Considering the narrow pricing gap between the two existing SUVs, the new SUV’s prices are expected to overlap with both. When launched, the Maruti Escudo will go head-to-head against the Hyundai Creta, Toyota Hyryder, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and Honda Elevate.
